Summary/Abstract: In this work the author is concerned with the problem of workers’ participation as a possible assumption and condition of disalienation. Bearing in mind the degrees and scope of participation achieved, ranging from co-decision — making (Mitbestimmung) through a proportional workers’ participation in ownership to a radically changed ownership relations achieved, by means of socializing the means of production, the author draws the conclusion that participation can be deal with in two ways: as a sort of a compromise with the existing relations of production, supporting the maintainance of the capitalist economy and as a demand for a profound change of the existing mode of production which could lead to the generation of quite different production relations and development of a new social system in the form of self-management.
