Summary/Abstract: The process of structural change that is increasingly coming to be called modernization is the first world wide process of change that has affected the human species. Although, this process has been too often equated with industrialization or economic growth, it in fact comprises the whole set of processes. Modernization involves processes such as: bureaucratization, urbanization, education, differentiation, secularization, etc. There have been attempts to view modernization as a singular comprehensive process, a position mostly inspired by the convergence theory, which argues from the viewpoint of the model modernized society.
