Summary/Abstract: The article shows the actions taken by the Russian Empress Yekaterina II. They were aimed at excluding Greek Catholic parishes of the Ukraine from the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Church. They had been the part of Commonwealth of Poland and became newly-connected to Russia. It demonstrates, on the base of archival materials, the resistance of the clergy and parishioners of the Greek Catholic Church to the violent return to the Orthodox Church.
