Summary/Abstract: This approach is based on some of the most prominent images of the city of Pompeii, selected from a plethora of texts that have been dedicated to it, among others, by Bulwer-Lytton, Ungaretti, Blaga and Baudrillard. Their analytical focus reveals the incandescent connection between the Pompeii effect – as a metaphor of perpetual instantaneity – and transhistory,as a mark of the perpetuality emptied of time. By extrapolating, this metaphysical connection sheds light on another one, which is deeply ontological: i. e. the inextricable and reciprocal transgression-inclusion life-death. It is a connection which particularly prevails in poetical thinking; Paz, Montale, Juarroz prove it.
