Summary/Abstract: Finding the right, understandable around the world, description of the how human beings function with their disability, seems of critical importance in light of the ageing society, globalisation and the growing need of healthcare and social care systems. WHO responded to this need. The ICF is often described as the integrative bio-psychosocial model of functioning and disability. This classification provides a standard language and a common framework for describing human health and health-related issues. Importantly, “ICF does not classify people, but describes the situation of each person within an array of health or health-related domains.” The author describes the structure of the ICF, illustrating with the use of examples how a composition of numeric codes and categories describes the patient’s functioning status in a way that is understandable to various specialists in various fields around the world.
