Summary/Abstract: The great challenges of the contemporary world, the tragedies and the emotions felt by the whole world, the global confrontation, all these are usually echoed by the press. Therefore, excessive publicity as well as the lack of it, have their consequences. The Islamic attacks from France (January 2015) demonstrated once again the frailty of the European society towards such challenges and the terrorist danger. Thus, the issues of the freedom of expression and the specificities of the different contemporary cultures were brought to public debate, a debate that reveals different points of view and contradictory ideas from geopolitical analysts, journalists, politicians and representatives of the civil society. The principle of secularization that has prevailed in France since 1915 opens the way for a strong manifestation of the contemporary democratic values and for the idea of respecting the specificity of each contemporary culture, including the European culture. Thus we do not run the risk of becoming, as Europeans, victims of positive discrimination.
