DISASTER MEASURES FOR LIBRARIES: EMERGENCY PLANNING

Summary/Abstract: Libraries are institutions that provide information for the benefit of society. This information can be digital or physical. Cultural heritage works are divided into two as portable and immovable heritage. Some library buildings may also be immovable cultural heritage. Some libraries also have portable cultural heritage works in their physical collections. It is essential to protect the entire library collection and its users from all kinds of risks, whether cultural heritage or rare works. Because many people use these public spaces at the same time. For this reason, it is necessary to emphasize the protection awareness towards these important cultural and information centers. However, with these awareness activities, everyone from library staff to library users should participate in active protection activities. Library collections can be easily influenced by indoor and outdoor factors. These negative factors can be physical, chemical and biological. The most devastating effect of these factors is through disasters. In order to avoid the devastating effects of these disasters, each library must have an emergency plan in preparation phase. In this study, In this study, the scope of Library Emergency Plans (LEP) was examined.
