Summary/Abstract: The motif DSCH is an important part of the structure of Shostakovich’s compositions. The idea of constructing motives, based on the initials of the composer’s name is not something new. However, Shostakovich used motif on a larger level, using a motif in many of his composition. This paper points to the incorporation motif DSCH in the works of Shostakovich, with special emphasis on the analysis of the String Quartet No. 8 in c minor, Op. 110, in which motif DSCH represents a basic motif nucleus. Through five movement String Quartet No. 8 in c minor, Op. 110 Shostakovich motif DSCH is used by more than one hundred times, as in the original form or the melodic and rhythmic changes.
