Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of a research project carried out for three months with the help of forty-eight 1st year students divided into two groups – an experimental group and a control group. The former group was taught English grammar and vocabulary by resorting to explanations in the Montenegrin language and the latter group exclusively in English. Their achievements are assessed through three tests. The students were also asked to complete a questionnaire about how they perceive these two types of teaching.
