Summary/Abstract: This paper characterises the term of the lifecycle and the entire lifecycle of a building. It presents the essence of a building operation and its influence on the implementation of the basic functions of a building. It also defines the influence of the operation process on the durability of a building considering factors conditioning this durability. It discusses the models of determining the length of building service life based on technical and economic standards, as well as international standards, which gave basis for recognising operation as the main determinant of the length of a property lifecycle.
