OF THE ZAONEZHYE DIALECTS

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the main features of the dialect of the northern part of Lake Onega coast (Zaonezhye), which refl ect the complexhistory of this territory settlement and the formation of a regional dialect system. It describes the phonetic phenomena that developedunder the infl uence of the Baltic-Finnish languages: recessive shift of stress, accompanied by a change of fi rst syllable vowels (suchas lyá zhit < lezhí t, s tá boy < s tobó y); transition of [j] into [g’] [d’] at the beginning of a word (gí zdit’ < yezdit’, des < *dezd < yezd);simplifi cation of consonant combinations (gverstá > verstá , greslí viy < reslí viy) and others. The article focuses on the lexicalizationof certain phonetic phenomena, dialect words existing only in the Zaonezhye dialects.
