Summary/Abstract: The article begins with a presentation of the main features of the imported version of marxism, which came in Romania from the Soviet Union, as a consequence of countryʼs defeat in the last World War. This form of marxism (which was pre-elaborated in the USSR at the end of the stalinist age) will eliminate, in a short period of time, all traditional Romanian philosophical schools. The purpose of the introductory part is to put into relation this form of marxism with the non-marxist philosophy of that time in Romania. We argue that the only representative of non-marxist philosophy was Constantin Noica (1909–1987), a Romanian philosopher that survived to the post-war extinction of Romanian traditional philosophy.Apparently, the main themes of Noicaʼs philosophy coincided with the Romanian-marxist philosophical themes. One explanation is that no philosophical theme, except the themes imposed by the communist regime itself, was allowed to be publicly discussed. That was imposed by the communist understanding of the nature of philosophy. But, it also gave room to a non-marxist philosopher to build up an alternative philosophical construction: similar themes allow (if precautions are taken) different solutions. The comparison between the Romanian Marxism and Noicaʼs philosophy is developed in four directions: a. the interest for Romanian traditional culture; b. the position regarding the philosophy of Hegel; c. the position regarding the dialectical method; d. the relation between science, technology and philosophy.
