Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to amplify the iconographical specifics of a particularly rare topic from the Byzantine art: The Old testament Teophany of Christ in Glory, according to prophet Ezekiel. The significance of the Bachkovo ossuary fresco, in regard to its relevant byzantine parallels – such as an icon, a mosaic, or even liturgical manuscripts – will be considered in accordance with their multilayered iconographical formulas. We will focus on the eschatological meaning of the Bachkovo mural painting, visually connected to other similar topics from the ossuary, by emphasising the association of text, specific liturgical offices and sepulchral iconography.
