Summary/Abstract: In 1919, at the Higher School of Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, a new chair was established: Sanitary Meat Inspection and Parasitology, led by the prestigious veterinarian Ion Ciurea, recognized nationally and abroad, especially due to his studies and further consistent collaboration with leading specialists of the highest level German schools in the field, as well as his publications in the German journals of veterinary medicine, during 1910 and 1915. The new chair introduced the Parasitology discipline for the first time, as distinct and separated of the Sanitary Meat Inspection discipline from the existing Professor Paul Riegler's chair. The paper highlights the development of veterinary education in the modern Romania – and even after the retirement of Ion Ciurea, until nowadays – with special focus on two interdependent disciplines, parasitology and meat inspection.
