Summary/Abstract: Alongside with other areas in the Baltic States, the Soviet occupation regime directed its totalitarian control towards the cultural sector. This area was of particular importance for the Soviet authorities due to its immense potential for ideological control to be exerted on the population as well as for propaganda purposes. Hence, the cultural sector became one of the main targets of the KGB. Consequently, infiltrating the KGB informants and agents into cultural institutions turned to be one of the most effective instruments for the totalitarian control.
