Summary/Abstract: Długosz raises numerous linguistic issues in the Annals. From the point of view of modern studies, these problems fall into the field of ethnology, culture of speech and comparative linguistics. The article focuses on the last thread – it reconstructs the chronicler’s views on the history and shape of the Slavic language community. Długosz knew how vast areas it occupied in Europe. On the other hand, the linguistic image of the Slavs outlined by him is incomplete. It should be noted, however, that this was decided not by the lack of thorough knowledge, but by the thematic scope adopted in the examined work. The historian described the fate of Poland and its immediate neighbours, which is why he focused on the northern Slavic region and the three languages that co-created it: Polish, Czech and Russian.
