Summary/Abstract: The events of the fall of 1918 made the church one of the makers of the Great Union. In this context, an important role was played by the bishop of Arad, Ioan Ignatie Papp, who after the death in unknown conditions even today of the metropolitan Vasile Mangra was appointed deputy metropolitan. The bishop of Arad had an intense collaboration with both the leaders of the Orthodox Church, as well as with those of the Greek-Catholic Church and with the politicians of the time, thus supporting the achievement of the Great Union. His merits were recognized in Alba-Iulia, where he was elected among the three presidents of the Great National Assembly, on which he delivered an impressive speech.
