Summary/Abstract: Thefollowing paper is concerned with the theory of time associated with Bertrand Russell, and adopted by several contemporary philosophers as a better alternative to themainstream theories of time, the A-theory and the B-theory. My aim here is to showthat the Russellian theory of time is not a B-theory, given certain important differencesbetween them, and to point out why this theory gives us a better suited ontology oftime, one which is consistent with today’s scientific views. In the first section, I presentthe theories inspired by McTaggart’s analysis of time. The second section will consistof a presentation of the Russellian theory of time, and an analysis of the maindifferences between the Russellian account of time and the B-theoretic one. The thirdsection will be concerned with further arguments in favor of the Russellian theory.I will argue that, assuming ontological parsimony as a principle of theory choice, weshould adopt a Russellian ontological account of time instead of a B-theoretic one, given that special relativity is compatible only with a four-dimensional ontology.
