Summary/Abstract: Translation of the legal speech is a complex process requiring knowledge from different fields (law, translation theory, linguistics, stylistics, etc.) and involving specific rules. That is why this task is extremely interesting and challenging both for translators and legal advisers and for professors teaching French for specific purposes. This topic will be tackled from the didactic perspective of the trainer of future sworn translators in Romania within the Department of Applied Modern Languages of Cluj-Napoca University. Thus, we aim to discuss the utility of translating bilingual or trilingual register office documents, the competencies needed in order to become a sworn translator and the current status of such translators.
