Summary/Abstract: In this article the contribution of the Renaissance painter, architect and art historian Giorgio Vasari (1511-1575) to art criticism is considered. Because of his cyclical and biological theory of art history, and because of its successful application to the waste areas of Italian art, Vasari greatly influenced Western art history and became one of its central figures. In the article the main attention is paid to the premises of Vasari’s concept of art criticism, its main ideas and principles of inquiry.
