Summary/Abstract: Based on the example of a teenage boy’s diary from the late 1950s and drawing on Philippe Lejeune’s concept of “personal diary,” Gołąb argues that such writing by children and teenagers is a perfectly valid source for research on the history of culture. The published diary presented here was written by a teenage boy in the Polish town of Żywiec and in Warsaw between 1957 and 1959. Both its textual content and the graphic elements, which the editor tried to reproduce, allow us to reflect on the everyday practices of a teenage boy at the time: he was a scout, a friend, a student and a son; he was enthusiastic about fireworks and, despite his many hobbies, he sometimes felt bored. His diary records aspects of everyday life that are rarely represented in other documents of the period.
