Summary/Abstract: August 1969 took a very dramatic course in many Czech and Slovak cities. The 1968 invasion was still a live event in society, as were the ideals of the so-called Prague Spring, which, however, began to wane with the rise of the so-called normalisation of society. One of the first important indicators of the new course of the communist party and state leadership was the response to the first anniversary of the occupation. Unlike during the events of August 1968, Czechoslovak society wasn’t confronted with foreign occupying armies but with members of the home security corps and the army.
