Summary/Abstract: This study intends to be a rough outline of the evolution of ideas about the spheres of action attributed to the types of ecclesiastic actors in the inner hierarchy and their relation with the secular rulers between 300 and 1500 A. C. In order to simplify the subject, the author used the medieval categories: three of spiritual (potestas magisterii/ordinis/iurisdictionis) and two of secular (common and public) authority.
