Summary/Abstract: In the 2006/1 issue of the Református Szemle we published the first Hungarian translation of the Preface and the first discourse On the faith of Theodoret’s apologetical work entitled A Cure of Greek Maladies, one of the best Christian replies given to Greek philosophy, yet surprisingly also one of the author’s most ignored writings by modern scholarship. The present article sets out to offer the first Hungarian translation of the first part of the second discourse entitled On the first principle, which deals with the issues concerning the origin of the world, the essence and being of God, the notions of ‘the One’ and of ‘the Monad’ as well as the relationship between God and ‘the gods’. The translation of the second part of this discourse will appear in the next issue of Református Szemle.
