Summary/Abstract: The Open School of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) develops its courses of studies keeping in policy in line to gender friendliness in the curriculum and syllabuses, self-learning materials (SLMs) and tutorial support services. The programs are run through open and distance learning, which, in Bangladesh, stands half-way towards the girls-friendly or gender-friendly approach recommended. At BOU, learners mainly use SLMs to complete their leanings; in addition, they attend tutorial sessions twice in a month or maximum of 20 in a year. It seems very little with compared to the learners’ need. To attend tutorial sessions is not compulsory; but very important as the Tutorial Centre (TC) provides learners with institutional attachment, opportunities for making peer group, academic supports from the tutors, and administrative supports for admission and examination. As mentioned, the ODL programs in Bangladesh itself are gender friendly; in spite of that gender-responsive of the tutorial sessions of the BOU Open School programs needs to study for taking policy level steps for further development. This study addresses overall situation of gender friendliness of tutorial sessions of the Open School Programs of the Bangladesh Open University.
