Summary/Abstract: Béla Kenessey was born in Szeged on the 14th of September 1858 into an ancient Hungarian noble family. His father was a ship master, then captain of the Army in the War of Independence against the Hapsburgs, later Royal Chief Intendent of the rail-ways and sailings, as well as Correspondent of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His mother was Ida Perlaky, whose family played an important role in the Evangelical Church in Hungary, providing there Superintendents, Deans and laic magistrates.
