Armageddon

Summary/Abstract: Our present study investigates the background of the name “Armageddon – Harmagedon”. First we summarize the theories connected with the etymology of the de-nomination, then we draw attention to a fundamental viewpoint which – so it seems –has escaped the attention of commentators, whereas it may give us a hopeful chance to better understand the background of John’s way of thinking. The study of Rev 20,7–8 and Ez 38–39 has led us to the conclusion that Armageddon is not the name of a battlefield, but a place of assembling. That excludes all other explanations which look upon the denomination as that of a theater of war.
