The Social and Media Construction of Health in the Case of the Elderly

Summary/Abstract: In the fall of 2017, in the framework of EFOP 361 project of the University of Szeged, a media science research has startedon the mediation of health discourse at the Department of Communication and Media Sciences. One of the directions of theresearch in several sub-topics is to reveal the social constructions of health and healthy lifestyle, focusing on the infl uence of themedia. This research topic was researched by focus group interviews in diff erent age groups. Our study approached the subjectin a funnel-like manner: at fi rst it was about the nature of health and health conditions, this was followed by a section onhealthcare systems and self-medication then the topic of health-related media consumption. This paper discusses the resultsof a study of people over 65 years of age.
