Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to characterise connectivity limitations of a lexem charakter, obligatory in the scheme X ma Y charakter/charakter Y [X has Y character/character Y], where X = a noun, Y = an adjective/adjective participle. The material was semantically analysed, referring to the concept of image schema. The research shows that, besides semantic considerations, the collocation of a lexem charakter is determined by a semantic relation of comparing two objects: the features of an object known to the subject are transferred to the characterised object and appear in the expression Y charakter. This kind of relation is necessary when the collocation of a lexem charakter appears in the meaning to describe objects and phenomena, but is not obligatory (and can even be impossible) when a lexem charakter describes psychological features of a human being.
