Summary/Abstract: Due to the fast speed of changes we are talking increasingly about the problem of „crisis”, „decline” or „family disintegration” which appears to be alarming, especially under the condition of the significant decrease of natality. Deinstitutionalization, individualization and democratization of family life represent the processes most mentioned in this field of study. At the same time the family crisis as a social institution would mean the decrease of family value in the value structure of population, while most of the research proves that the European citizens have as main values family, reliable partnership, privacy, love, unconditional support, responsable and efficient management of daily life. Family is more and more integrated in the social dynamics, more and more conditioned by the economic and social changes, thus, affecting the overall evolution. Family gives a certain meaning to human existence, inspires trust in people, stimulates creativity and harmonizes human spiritual life.
