Summary/Abstract: Attested upon the oldest preserved documents, the noble seals were using coats of arms, following Western influences. Less developed than in the rest of Europe, the local noble heraldry had an uninterrupted evolution, also during the Phanariots age. Only a part of the great noble lineages displayed coats of arms, while the armorial usage was rarely met with the lower nobility. Having interesting particularities, the local heraldry reflected the social status of the elites of the Principality of Moldavia.
