Summary/Abstract: Vlad Georgescu's act of dissidence in the spring of 1977 was structured after the model of dissident initiatives in the other communist countries where dissidents' struggle for human and civil rights played on the provisions of the Helsinki Final Act and other similar documents the communist states had signed and ratified. Initiated almost at the same time as the Goma Movement, Vlad Georgescu's attempt at dissidence was soon stifled, notably as a consequence of how Nicolae Ceausescu reacted, angered by the support and media coverage Paul Goma had enjoyed and by the fact that Vlad Georgescu had managed to submit to the US Embassy three texts hostile to the regime.
