Summary/Abstract: In the early 60's, during the open polemic between the leaderships in Beijing and Moscow, the Chinese indicated the year 1956 and the 20th Congress of the CPSU as starting points of the rift between the two countries and parties. Nevertheless, the stands and actions the leaders of the Chinese Communist Party took in 1956 did in no way hint at the breakage they would invoke later.
