Summary/Abstract: Jan Mukařovský taught at secondary schools for fifteen years but his contribution to the teaching of Czech at secondary schools is much broader than that. The present study brings its recapitulation. Mukařovský’s contribution can be divided into three areas. The first one includes his reviews and evaluations. It is not very extensive but his first literary-theoretical text belongs to this category. The second area deals with his contribution to the formation of new curriculums and textbooks. The last area includes his three articles on the teaching of Czech. The first of them, entitled “Vyučování jazyku mateřskému na školách francouzských a o potřebě jeho reformy na školách našich” (1925) [On the Teaching of the Mother Tongue at French Grammar Schools and on Its Need of Reformation at Czech Secondary Schools], deals with the traditional division of the subject into “Czech language” and “literature”, and suggests that the individual components conform a single aim, which is the composition education.
