Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to development and functioning of the concept of FREEDOM in the Belarusian language. An analysis is presented of the evolution of derivatives of the Slavonic roots *svobod- and *vol- at the different stages of the development of Belarusian, from Old Belarusian to its contemporary form. Note is taken of data from various dictionaries of modern Belarusian, as well as derivations and textual data. Special attention is paid to the use of the words свабода, воля, вольнасць in Belarusian mass media.
