Summary/Abstract: The paper investigates Russian names of subjects of power. These nouns can be divided into two groups. The first group includes such nouns as правитель, управляющий and заведующий ‘ruler, governor’. In them, the semantics of control is reflected in the inner form. The second group includes the nouns чиновник or менеджер ‘official, manager’ and denote management functions of bureaucratic machinery. It is shown in the paper that in post-Soviet discourse, writers often prefer names of the subjects of power with fuzzy meanings.
