Summary/Abstract: When considering the case of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the light of current European and global trends in the development of the state, the starting point should be that in no way can our state be immune to the omnipresent changes that are already perceptible. If the goals of economic development on market principles and the development of the concomitant social institutions are the central feature of the evolution of the state in the modern world, the same destiny inevitably lies ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a state. If this is viewed through the lens of the constitutional objectives facing the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it may be inferred that its goals are for the most part the same as those of every other prosperous federal state the world over. It may safely be averred that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s goals, at least as set forth in the Constitution, are entirely up-to-date, and as such it is realistic to expect that they will be met. Along with the traditional objectives concerning human dignity, equality, human rights and fundamental freedoms, much of the Constitution deals with emphasizing the goal of the general benefits of economic development, by protecting private ownership and promoting a market economy. It may rightly be concluded, therefore, that from the perspective of its objectives as a state, as expressed in the Preamble to the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Constitution itself, the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina has reached the same level as other developed European states.
