Summary/Abstract: Introduction: The emergency medical services in Germany increasingly face changing challenges. First, because of the increase in cases, and, second, also because of the refugee issues with an increase in divergent medical problems. Objectives: The objective of this paper is to highlight how the emergency medical services in Germany are organised and to solidify this knowledge for practical applications on the basis of the studies presented. Methodology: Three studies from the area of emergency medical services are presented and the overall organisation is examined in a table format. Outcome: Fundamentally, the emergency medical services in Germany are very well organised despite the differences at federal state level. Conclusion: The emergency services in Germany have an effective and flexible structure that is well suited to respond to the changing and increasing challenges and thus realise acute medical care.
