Summary/Abstract: By its extent and duration, the First World War triggered new situations for the priests that remained beside believers, which not everybody knew how to cope with, without breaching the official canons, the Typikon. A part of them did not know to preach mobilizing sermons for those from home, or how to offer up prayers for those mobilized, overran the sacral time established for such prayers and, especially, did not know how to perform church service for those dead on the battlefield or in military hospitals. Aroused problems are proposed to be debated in priestly conferences or debated in addresses forwarded to archpriests and consistories to receive the necessary guidance. Texts of these documents produced by the Orthodox priests as well as the Greek-Catholic ones and responses received from immediate supervisors were commented upon, then transcribed wholly in the Annexes of the article.
