Summary/Abstract: There has been an increasing interest in the negative personality traits and their influence in different social contexts as educational, clinical, organizational, judicial, romantic relationship. In psychological research during the last decade this dark side of human nature has been conceptualized and measured as the so-called Dark Triad including three socially undesirable personality traits: narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism. The current paper presents the results of the initial adaptation of a Bulgarian version of the Dark Triad Dirty Dozen Scale (DTDD, Jonason & Webster, 2010). The scale consists of 12 items, four for each of the three traits. 237 students from various bachelor programs, most of them working, took part in the study which aimed to investigate the psychometric quality of the scale. The factor structure, reliability and validity of the measure were examined. The factor structure was tested with Principal component analysis using direct oblimin rotation. PCA revealed a three-factor solution (eigenvalue> 1), in accordance with the original structure. For assessment of convergent validity of DTDD correlational analysis with NPI-15 (Zemojtel-Piotrowska, Rogoza et al., in press) and Entitlement questionnaire (EQ, Piotrowski & Zemojtel-Piotrowska, 2009) were performed. The established lack of relationship between self-esteem (Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale, 1965) and the Dark Triad as well as some sex differences in dark traits indicated an evidence of discriminant validity of the Dark Triad Dirty Dozen Scale. The DTDD and its subscales showed satisfactory internal consistency and had reasonable psychometric properties.
