Summary/Abstract: The civil and legal categories of civil law, ownership, ways of acquisition of property rights, and real estate property have been analyzed based on the writings of the first Russian civilist D.I. Meyer, who was the founder of the Russian Civil Law School and the Kazan Law School. The uniqueness of D.I. Meyer’s personality along with the originality of his scientific approaches make it possible to reconstruct his image, which is still of interest to the new generations of civil law scholars. September 1, 2019 marks the 200th birth anniversary of the birth of the first Russian civilist, D.I. Meyer. He was a descendant of Portuguese Jews, studied civil law at the University of Berlin, managed to become the legacy of the Russian civil law. Although his life was short (D.I. Mayer died at the age of 37 years), he considerably influenced the development of civil law science. Tanks to the nobility of this person endowed with moral principles, we have the ideas that should always be used for guidance and justify his high value as a scientist and a civilist.
