Summary/Abstract: The present study aims to highlight the role played by the places of authentication in the dissemination of the written word, given that, for at least two centuries (13th-16th centuries), they were situated among the most active documents-issuing institutions after the royal chancellery. The main characteristics of this institution, the chancellery, the archive and the main types of issued documents are addressed, these being valid (with small differences) for all places of authentication in the Hungarian Kingdom. After a brief presentation of the places of authnetication in the dioceses of Transylvania, Cenad and Oradea, from the point of view of the respective historiography, the case study presents the actuality of the Premonstratensian convent in Dealul Orăzii as a place of authentication. Although it functioned as document issuing institution for only about a century (1264-1352), I considered its analysis necessary, especially due to the fact that such an approach is missing in Romanian historiography.
