Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the essential role of the family in the social rehabilitation process in the correctional institution. Family environment is one of the most important factors responsible for crime among children and youths. On the other hand, the family should be involved in the treatment and upbringing process. The institution (Młodzieżowy Ośrodek Wychowawczy) has to organize the individual plan of working with the family. It is not possible to understand a child`s behavior separately from the unique significance of family ties. A lot of researches know how to diagnose the family environment, but just a few how to work and cooperate with it. This article shows a model of working with families of socially maladjusted boys.
