Summary/Abstract: The current paper draws upon the centrality of the concept of “smart city” to nowadays’ public discourse, in general, and to the contemporary urban development-related concerns, in particular. While the concept of “smart city” has been associated mainly with areas such as mobility or health, meant to make urban areas more sustainable, relatively little attention has been paid to the way in which the focus on these notions reshapes the ways in which policies meant to ensure the preservation of the cultural heritage are articulated. Even less attention has been paid to the impact that the constellations of values which surround in implicit ways the notion of “smart city” can have on educational environments. That is why the current paper aims to plea for a more visible mapping of the educational arena as part of the endeavors to frame the concept of “smart city”. It does so by suggesting a brief consideration of the ways in which education has been regarded within the description of a given smart city project.
