Summary/Abstract: The article includes an analysis of the names in the public space of Stettin (now: Szczecin), a town situated at the time in the German cultural area. In the investigated period of time there were three subsequent state systems there: the German Reich, the Weimar Republic and the Nazi (National Socialist) state. An analysis of hodonyms offers an insight into the culture of memory and officially promoted historical and cultural policy, practised in the subsequent forms of the German state. The similarities have been identified and the differences compared; at the same time, some conclusions have been arrived at concerning the names in the urban space in each of those periods.
