THE AREA OF THE BORDER FORESTS IN 1875 – A DOCUMENTARY SOURCE FOR NĂSĂUD DISTRICT

Summary/Abstract: The author presents the situation of the forests which used to be under the administrationof the border patrol, in the Mocod and Monor administrative units, in 1875.The documents were drawn up under the provisions of the forest managementregulations, which were themselves elaborated under the guidance of Mr. FlorinPorcius, the vice-captain of Năsăud District.The documents describe the state of the forests, the quality and the age of thetrees, the borders of the forest and the possible contraventions to forestry regulations.These contraventions are stipulated in the case of damage brought to the forests nearthe inhabited areas, as well as to mountain forests, which were situated especially in themountains towards the Maramureş and Bukovina regions.The documents also provide further information with regards to the socioeconomic conditions of the period when they were drawn up.
