Summary/Abstract: Metacognition is one of the key aspects of child’s learning potential, responsible for future cognitive self‐regulation, statistically important predictor of learning effectiveness. Its developmental sources are grounded in “naïve theories of mind”, shaped in early childhood in family environment. The aim of this article is to present the construct of “metacognitive awareness”, to explain its developmental paths, and to analyze these aspects of family pedagogical culture which are responsible for shaping child’s ability to reflect on one’s own thinking.
