Summary/Abstract: This work aims to analyse whether old Turkish beliefs are cultural determinant in Gumushane and its districts. In old ages, it is known that Turks believed in the Sky God (Tengri) under Shamanism religion before they met Islam and they admired supernatural powers. It was preferred interview among qualitative research methods in order to examine if old Turkish beliefs from past to present day are still in existence based on the knowledge mentioned above. In this work, prevention methods against the evil eye, fire and fireplace cults, tree cult, beliefs and practices about fountains and rivers as well as expect news from crows, ox and fish under the ground, bad luck for the one who sits over the threshold, some beliefs and rituals relating to funeral ceremony and grief were analysed under headings. The findings suggest that many widespread beliefs, customs and traditions in the province of Gumushane today are related to the old Turkish belief. It is thought that the datas achieved from this work would make a significant contribution to the researches which will examine cultural structures of old Turkish people and families besides cultural structures and history of Gumushane province.
