Summary/Abstract: The introduction of this paper presents Shanghai International Studies University which successfully opened the programme of Czech Studies in September 2018, probably in reaction to currentpolitical affairs and increasing interest in learning Czech. The core of this article describes theprogramme of Czech Studies, giving a detailed characterization of job duties of the Czech instructor and pointing out problematic areas in teaching Czech at the university. This article is based onthe author’s personal experience and perceptions from working at SISU during the 2018/2019 academic year.
