Summary/Abstract: The population of elderly people increases. There were 841 million seniors in 2013; their number will exceed 2 trillion in 2050 [World Population Ageing 2013]. This means that the costs of seniors’ health care will steadily increase. The available data show that per cent of GDP spent on seniors will increase worldwide: in the UK from 10.5% to 15.5% in the years 1995‐2030; in the United States from 10.5% to 17%; in Japan from 11.5% to 23.1%; in France from 17.6% to 25.5%; in Italy from 19.7% to 33.3% [Burns, D'Aunno, Kimberly, 2004]. A clear need occurs to promote globalization practices such as transnational transfer of effective but low‐cost models of care for the elderly. Another solution is to look for savings by means of diffusion of innovations in the area of information technology. As far as tele‐geriatrics can improve the quality of life of seniors by typing in the "iron triangle of health care," that is striving to increase the quality of health services and their availability, while reducing, or at least not increasing their costs (Burns, D'Aunno, Kimberly, 2004), this problem will be discussed in depth.
